OVERVIEW

SE 370 Sport

The Sea Eagle 370 sport inflatable kayak is virtually identical to the Sea Eagle 330 (see Sea Eagle 330 Review) except that it is slightly larger, weighs 6 pounds more and can hold an extra 150 pounds.

This kayak is fairly versatile and can be used on calm water as well as in up to class III whitewater.

SELF BAILING DRAIN VALVES

It has a self bailing drain valve that allows you to quickly rid the kayak of excess water if needed.

2 ATTACHED SKEGS

The two attached skegs do help with the tracking.  You don’t often find a base level inflatable kayak that tracks well.

There’s room for improvement with the tracking on the 370 but overall it’s quite good.

DELUXE ONE-WAY VALVES

There are three deluxe one-way valves for inflating the 370, one on the floor and one on each side.

The valves are easy to use and no air escapes when inflating.  It takes me roughly 7-8 minutes to inflate all three air chambers.

IDEAL FOR BEGINNER TO NOVICE PADDLERS

This is an entry level kayak that is not only affordable but surprisingly comfortable and easy to paddle.

It is a great option for beginner to novice paddlers, families, or for those who want a very portable kayak that can be taken anywhere.

Sea Eagle is well known in the industry for manufacturing great inflatable boats and they have several different kayak options.   have used their inflatable kayaks for well over ten years.

The 370 Sport gets you on the water for a really good price.

Whether you want to camp, fish, travel or simply enjoy a day on the lake cruising around, the SE370 is a fantastic option.

DURABILITY

Although the 370 is a base model it is still well made. The construction is not as heavy-duty as their more expensive models but you can count on it lasting for a long time.

I have used this kayak extensively and never had an issue. The seams are strong, the valves work great and the material holds up well.

Follow these easy tips to help your kayak last a long time:

  1. Use 303 Protectant to help protect the material from harsh UV rays.
  2. Store the kayak in a cool area away from the elements.
  3. Rinse with fresh water after paddling in salt water.
  4. Always dry the kayak thoroughly after use before putting it away.

PADDLING WITH DOGS

paddling the Sea Eagle Sport kayak with dogs

I find that most people are a bit concerned about bringing a dog into an inflatable kayak.  I can understand the concern, the boat is inflatable after all and most wonder if a dogs claws will puncture the material.

Let me put your mind at ease… I paddle with my dogs in the 370 Sport all the time.

The Sea Eagle inflatable kayaks are made to be very durable, even their base Sport models.

In fact I would highly encourage bringing your dogs along for the ride if paddling on calm water. My dogs absolutely love going kayaking with me.

My dogs are small and they often sit on top of the spray skirts at the front and back of the kayak.

If you have a large dog I would recommend putting down a towel or a mat.  just for a little extra protection and comfort.

Also worth noting there isn’t a lot of extra room in the kayak for a larger dog if paddling with two people.  The dog will definitely end up between your legs.

However when paddling solo, your dog can have the second seating position all to himself. ๐Ÿ™‚

PERFORMANCE

kayak performance Sea Eagle Sport kayak

Even though this is an entry level kayak it is still a lot more solid than many other inflatable kayaks in this price range.

The 370 can hold up to 650 pounds of cargo and consequently can be loaded right up and keep on floating and tracking well.

I find this model to be particularly easy to turn and maneuver.  It is fairly light weight and takes very little effort to turn quickly.

The tracking is good as long as you have the kayak inflated properly and the seats positioned in the right space.

I find that with the back seat almost all the way at the back and the front seat about 3/4 of the way up the front the tracking is best.  When I tried moving the back seat a little closer to the front seat I found that the tracking wasn’t as good.  It basically comes down to weight distribution so just be aware when packing the kayak that the more evenly you can distribute the weight, the better it will perform.

When the kayak is loaded properly it tracks well and glides smoothly.

COMFORT

These kayaks are more comfortable than one might think.  I have done all day paddling trips in the Sea Eagle 370 and been very comfortable.

I personally prefer the high back deluxe inflatable seats offered in the Pro Package over the SEC kayak seat.  I find they offer far more support for longer paddling trips.

The kayak is also very comfortable for taking a quick mid-paddle cat nap.  My brother (in the below picture) passed out for a good 30 minutes during one of our adventures while I played on the beach with the dogs. ๐Ÿ™‚

SETUP

inflating the Sea Eagle Sport kayak with foot pump

There are three separate air chambers on this kayak, one on each side and one on the floor.

With the included foot pump it takes me only about 6 minutes to fully inflate.

There is no pressure gauge to check the PSI level but it is impossible to over-inflate with the foot pump.  I simply pump until the foot pump gets too hard to keep pumping.

If you are using an electric pump be very careful.  This kayak only inflates to 1.1 PSI.  It is easy to rupture the kayak with an electric pump.

The foot pump is easy to use and works well, I would suggest sticking with it.

Inflating the seat literally takes only a few seconds.

The whole process is very fast.  You can be on the water within ten minutes of arriving.

GOOD BANG FOR YOUR BUCK

I think that one of the biggest selling features for this inflatable kayak is that you really get a lot for your money.

The price for the sport kayaks is quite low and it includes the kayak, the paddle(s), the inflatable seat(s), the carry bag, the pump and the repair kit. The only other thing you need to get started is a lifejacket.

CONVENIENCE

Considering this is a tandem kayak it is very lightweight and consequently very easy to take anywhere.

It can be carried by just one person and it rolls up into a nice little package. Besides transporting in the trunk of your vehicle, it can also easily be taken on an airplane, or in an RV.

I have actually met a few people on my travels who also keep this exact kayak model on their larger boat and use it to paddle from ship to shore. It is a really convenient kayak to have.

Another great feature is that the seats can be moved around. For solo paddling adventures simply remove one of the seats and place your seat in the center of the kayak.

SIZE

If you are debating between the two different sport kayak sizes I would say that the SE 370 is a better option if you plan on kayaking with 2 people as it truly offers far more leg room than the SE 330. It also offers much more room for fishing gear and camping trips.

The SE 330 is great for solo paddling, kids, or shorter people. It can certainly be used for two, but I personally find it a little squishy when paddling the 330 tandem.

That being said the 330 is very easy to carry and transport for one person.

VIDEO

Below is my video of the Sea Eagle 330 Sport inflatable kayak. The 330 is identical to the 370 model except that it is slightly smaller.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Sea Eagle 370 inflatable kayak tandem

The 370 Sport may not be the sleekest or fastest model out there but considering the affordable price and the fact that it is comfortable, stable, durable and is backed by a great guarantee, you really can’t go wrong.

You get a lot for your money and it is perfect for many different types of adventures. It will satisfy any beginner kayaker and work well for recreational use, families, fishing, camping or traveling.
