More about the Innova K1 Inflatable Kayak
The K1 was designed strictly for whitewater river running with rapids up to class IV. It is built really solid and can be inflated to 3.7 psi which allows it to stay rigid even while paddling over big waves. It is self-bailing which one would expect for a whitewater inflatable kayak and is very stable for a kayak of its class.
Although at first glance the Innova K1 seems like a very impressive whitewater inflatable kayak, in truth it falls short in a few areas.
- For one it has quite a low load capacity. It can carry up to 220 pounds which means that if you are a larger person, this kayak would not be for you. It also doesn’t leave much leeway for bringing extra gear.
- From reading the specs on the K1 we would expect a really impressive performance but unfortunately the reviews have only been average and consequently it has not been a best seller.
- The last area that seems to be a concern for people is the high price tag. Innova is an excellent inflatable kayak company and has a great reputation. However even with the K1’s super strong material I am not sure I could rationalize spending the amount they are asking for this solo kayak. There are other inflatable kayaks in the same class that are asking less and have had better reviews.
All of that being said, I am a big fan of Innova kayaks and am especially fond of their models that are under $1000. There are lots of pros with the K1 such as:
- the high pressure construction
- the extra large drain holes
- the super strong yet environmentally friendly material
- the backrest, footrest and thigh straps that allow for excellent control
Final Thoughts on the Innova K1 Inflatable Kayak
The K1 is definitely a good competitor in great whitewater inflatable kayaks but they haven’t yet convinced me that it is worth the hefty price tag. Also their two year warranty doesn’t compare to other inflatable kayaks in this league… many of which offer a ten year warranty. Time will tell whether or not the Innova K1 will climb up the ranks in popularity.
